Argon, helium, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide are the shielding gases employed in we ding. Some othem differ greatly in their specific weight, chemical behavior, energy content, and espec ally thermal conductivity, energies of dissociation and ronization, and other properlres. By optimally combining a variety of characteristics, gas mrxtures of particular benefit will be obtained, above all ensuring sound welds and the desired profitability, Examples of a number of materials welded with various pro cesses will be presented and discussed
