Implementation of Traffic Impact Assessment in Developing Countries: Case Study of Bangladesh

Abstract

Due to unplanned development, traffic congestion in the cities of Bangladesh has become a serious problem. As a result, Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) has become a necessity to control this unplanned growth. In Bangladesh, the concept of TIA has recently been introduced and is yet to be institutionalized. Here implication of TIA faces many challenges which are also common in most of the developing countries. In this paper, the issues and challenges are discussed as well as the possible solutions. The study further discusses the strategies for improving implementation of TIA in Bangladesh.
